Security Operations , Hardware , Critical Infrastructure Security NCSC launches SilentGlass to combat display cyberattacks April 24, 2026 Share By SC Staff The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has introduced its first hardware device, SilentGlass, designed to prevent cyberattacks targeting display devices. The device, licensed to Goldilock Labs for commercial availability, has been used within government networks for several years and is capable of protecting high-threat environments, according to a recent report by The Register. SilentGlass is a gadget compatible with HDMI and DisplayPort connections that identifies and blocks malicious traffic between a computer and its display. The device is threat-agnostic, meaning it can detect and prevent any type of malicious activity aimed at altering or manipulating a display. While attacks via HDMI are uncommon, the NCSC believes external monitors are an attractive target for adversaries, particularly those focused on espionage. Research has shown potential attack vectors, such as intercepting electromagnetic radiation emitted from HDMI cables, though these are considered fringe cases. The device is intended for organizations safeguarding highly sensitive data, including critical national infrastructure operators.
