CYBERSECURITY FUNDING GitGuardian Raises $50 Million for Secrets and Non-Human Identity Security The secrets security company has raised more than $100 million since its creation in 2017. The Series C round comes amid growing concerns over unmanaged machine identities and credentials in enterprise environments, particularly as AI adoption accelerates the creation of autonomous agents. The funding was led by Insight Partners, with participation from Quadrille Capital, Balderton, BPI, Eurazeo, Fly Ventures and Sapphire Ventures. This brings GitGuardian’s total funding to $106 million. The proceeds will support expansion into new regions like APAC, South America and the Middle East, while strengthening presence in North America and Europe. Investments will also focus on engineering for AI agent security capabilities and enterprise tools for non-human identity lifecycle management. GitGuardian’s platform centers on identifying and handling secrets across development workflows, with deployment options in SaaS or self-hosted formats to fit various organizational needs. It features scanning capabilities for code repositories, software supply chains and public sources to detect over 550 types of secrets, alongside monitoring for potential leaks and the use of honeytokens (decoy credentials) as a defensive measure against intruders. The offering extends to non-human identity governance, providing a unified view of secrets from multiple sources and vaults, with tools for assessing usage patterns, identifying inactive credentials and ensuring adherence to security policies. “The market has reached a critical inflection point. Organizations that once managed hundreds of service accounts will now face thousands of autonomous AI agents, each requiring secure credentials,” said Eric Fourrier, CEO and co-founder of GitGuardian. “While identity solutions matured for human users, non-human identities remain largely unmanaged and recent breaches prove the cost. We’re moving beyond secrets detection into full NHI lifecycle governance. Effective secrets management requires seamless collaboration between development, security and IAM teams at every stage of the workflow,” Fourrier added.
