A path traversal vulnerability (CVE-2026-40370, CVSS 8.8) in Microsoft SQL Server allows an authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code under the SQL Server service account. Affected versions include SQL Server 2016 SP3 (GDR), 2017 (CU31/GDR), 2019 (CU32/GDR), 2022 (CU24/GDR), and 2025 (CU4/GDR). Microsoft has released security updates to remediate this issue; administrators should install the relevant patches available via the Microsoft Security Response Center.
