USN-8305-1: Linux kernel (Intel IoTG Real-time) vulnerabilities

A critical vulnerability (CVE-2026-31431, CVSS 7.8 HIGH) in the Linux kernel's algif_aead module, known as Copy Fail, allows a local attacker to escalate privileges or escape a container via improper handling of in-place cryptographic operations. Affected versions span multiple kernel series, including Linux kernel 4.14 through versions below 5.10.254, 5.11 through versions below 5.15.204, and 6.2 through versions below 6.6.137. The flaw is remediated by upgrading to specific patched versions such as 5.10.254, 5.15.204, or 6.6.137, depending on the kernel series in use.

It was discovered that the Linux kernel algif_aead module did not properly handle in-place cryptographic operations. This flaw is known as Copy Fail. A local attacker could use this to escalate privileges, or possibly escape a container. (CVE-2026-31431) Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel. An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system. This update corrects flaws in the following subsystems: - Cryptographic API; - Ethernet bonding driver; - Packet sockets; - TLS protocol; (CVE-2026-31419, CVE-2026-31504, CVE-2026-31533, CVE-2026-43033, CVE-2026-43077, CVE-2026-43078)
